About Azerbaijan:

• Azerbaijan is a country in the Caucasus region of Eurasia.
• The capital of Azerbaijan is Baku.
• It is bounded by the Caspian Sea to the east, Russia to the north, Georgia to the northwest, Armenia to the west and Iran to the south.
• It has an exclave called Nakhchivan which is bounded by Armenia to the north and east, Iran to the south and west, and Turkey in the northwest.
• Azerbaijan is a developing country and ranks 87th on the Human Development Index.
• The country is a former soviet republic which proclaimed its independence on 30 August 1991, shortly before the dissolution of the USSR.
• While around 97% of the population is Muslim, the Constitution of Azerbaijan does not declare an official religion and all major political forces in the country are secularist.
