Why in news?
- The report titled “Global Britain, Global Broker” has put India in a list of difficult four countries vis a vis British diplomacy.
About the report:
- The report is published by Chatham House, a century-old UK-based policy institute also known as the Royal Institute of International Affairs.
- The main purpose of the report is to propose a blueprint for Britain’s future foreign policy after Brexit.
- Concerningly, in the Chatham House report India is classed as one of the “difficult four” countries, along with Russia, Turkey and Saudi Arabia, where citizens are denied the capacity to fight for their rights.
- Part of the justification for labelling India ‘difficult’ centres on a critique of India’s domestic political developments.
- The report notes that Hindu nationalism of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party is weakening the rights of Muslims and other minority religious groups.
