About the mission:

  • It is a program with an allocation for Rs. 500 crore for three years (2020-21 to 2022-23).
  • The mission was announced as part of the AtmaNirbhar Bharat scheme.
  • NBHM aims for the overall promotion & development of scientific beekeeping in the country to achieve the goal of ‘Sweet Revolution’ which is being implemented through National Bee Board (NBB).

Objectives:

  • To enhance apiculture and honey production.
  • Developing infrastructural facilities, including setting up of Integrated Beekeeping Development Centre (IBDC)s, honey testing labs, bee disease diagnostic labs, custom hiring centres, Api-therapy centres, nucleus stock, bee breeders, etc
  •  Empowerment of women through beekeeping.
  • Create awareness about post-harvest management of beekeeping, beehive products, including collection, processing, storage, marketing, value addition, etc.
  • Research & Technology generation in beekeeping.
  • Make farmers aware about the distribution of specialized Beekeeping equipments for production of high value products, viz. Royal Jelly, Bee Venom, Comb Honey, etc

Madhukranti portal

  • The Madhukranti portal is operated under the National Beekeeping and Honey Mission.
  • The portal has been developed to achieve the traceability source of honey and bee hive products on the digital platform.
  • Also, the platform will help in checking the quality and source of adulteration of honey.
