Why in news?

• Airports Authority of India (AAI) has launched an initiative named “‘Airport as Venue for Skilled Artisans of the Region (AVSAR)”.

About AVSAR Scheme:

• Airport as Venue for Skilled Artisans of the Region (AVSAR Scheme) is a scheme launched by the Airport Authority of India (AAI) to encouraging the talent of craftsmen, women, and artisans and providing them with proper opportunities.

Aim:

• To encourage the talent of craftsmen, women, and artisans and provide them with proper opportunities.
• Under the initiative, space will be allocated to Self Help Groups (SHGs) at the airports for the purpose of showcasing or selling the self-made products of their specific region.
• At each AAI-operated airport, an area of 100-200 square feet has been earmarked for the SHGs.
• On a turn-on-turn basis, this area will be provided to the SHGs for duration of 15 days.
