What is APEDA?

  • It stands for Agricultural and Processed Food products Export Development Authority.
  • APEDA is an export promotion organization mandated with the responsibility of promotion and development of the export of its scheduled products.
  • It is under the Ministry of Commerce & Industries.
  • It is a statutory body established under the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority Act passed by the Parliament in December,1985.
  • The products specified under the APEDA ACT are called schedule products and exporters of such scheduled products are required register under APEDA.

Functions of APEDA:

  • Setting the standards, specifications and conducting inspections for the scheduled products.
  • Registration of exporters of the scheduled products.
  • Improving packaging, marketing and providing training for the Scheduled products.
  • Development of industries relating to the scheduled products and undertaking surveys, feasibility studies, collecting statistics etc.
