Why in news?
- DRDO test fired Akash-NG and MPATGM missiles.
About Akash -NG missile:
- Akash - New generation (abbreviated as Akash-NG) is a medium-range mobile surface-to-air missile defense system developed by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and produced by Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL) and Bharat Electronics (BEL).
- This missile is a successor to the Akash and Akash-1S series of missiles with improvements such as a Dual-pulse solid rocket motor, a canisterized launcher and an better radars to improve its probability of kill with a smaller ground operations and logistics footprint.
About MPATGM:
- The MPATGM, or Man Portable Anti-Tank Guided Missile, is an Indian third-generation fire-and-forget anti-tank guided missile derived from Nag ATGM.
- It is currently under development by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) in partnership with Indian defence contractor VEM Technologies Private Limited.
- The lightweight MPATGM is integrated with a thermal sight and can be launched from a man-portable launcher by a two-man crew.
