Why in news?

  • Israel has announced the creation of Beresheet 2 space mission.

About Beresheet 2:

  • The Beresheet 2 project is a lunar exploration project that will aim to send three spacecraft — an orbiter and two landers — to the moon.
  • It is expected to be launched into space in four years.
  • SpaceIL, a non-profit Israeli initiative, Israel Aerospace Industries and Israel’s Science Ministry and national space agency will be partners in the project.
  • The first Beresheet, or “Genesis,” spacecraft, built by SpaceIL and state-owned Israel Aerospace Industries, had crashed moments before touchdown last year.
  • Seven countries, including the United Arab Emirates, have expressed interest in joining the effort.
  • Apart from scientific aspects, its aims included promoting careers in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM),
