About Bodos:

  • They are part of the Bodo-Kachari ethnolinguistic groups found in Nepal, Bangladesh and clustered in Assam.
  • Bodo are the largest minority group in Assam and are concentrated in the northern areas of the Brahmaputra River valley.
  • The Bodo-Kachari people are the first to cultivate rice and rear silkworms in Assam.

Language:

  • They speak the Bodo language, which is recognized as one of twenty-two scheduled languages in the Indian Constitution.

Religion:

  • Bodos traditionally practise Bathouism, which is the worshiping of forefathers.
  • In modern days, they are highly influenced by belief system of Hinduism.

Art and festivals

  • Bagurumba and Bardaichikla are folk dances performed by the tribes.
  • Baishagu is the most cherished, spring time festival celebrated by them.
