Why in news?
- Prime Minister distributes e-property cards to 171,000 beneficiaries of Svamitva scheme
About SWAMITVA Scheme:
- SVAMITVA (Survey of Villages and Mapping with Improvised Technology in Village Areas) is a Central Sector Scheme of the Ministry of Panchayati Raj that aims to provide property rights to the residents of rural inhabited areas.
- The surveys is conducted on land parcels (in rural inhabited area) using drone technology and Continuously Operating Reference Station (CORS).
- The survey is conducted across the country in a phase-wise manner over a period of four years - from 2020 to 2024.
- The pilot project, the scheme was successfully implemented in Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Uttarakhand, Rajasthan, Haryana and Karnataka.
- It will be rolled out in the entire country to provide property cards.
- This would provide the ‘record of rights’ to village household owners possessing houses in inhabited rural areas in villages which, in turn, would enable them to use their property as a financial asset for taking loans and other financial benefits from Bank
- The scheme will lead to creation of accurate land records for rural planning and determination of property tax.
- It also promotes a socio-economically empowered and self-reliant rural India.
