State Energy Efficiency Index 2020

Why in news?

• State Energy Efficiency Index 2020 was released recently under the Ministry of Power.

About the Index:

• The State Energy Efficiency Index 2020 has been developed by Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) and Alliance for an Energy Efficient Economy (AEEE).
• The State Energy Efficiency Index assesses the performance of states and UTs in energy efficiency using 68 qualitative, quantitative, and outcome-based indicators, across six sectors, namely, Buildings, Industry, Municipalities, Transport, Agriculture & DISCOMs and Cross Sector.
• The maximum score for the State Energy Efficiency Index 2020 is 100.
• Thirty-six states and union territories have been assessed in State EE Index 2020. Based on their efforts and achievements, states have been classified as ‘Front runner’, ‘Achiever’, ‘Contender’ and ‘Aspirant’.
