IN NEWS:
- The Centre has spelt out the rules of domicile in the Jammu and Kashmir region, opening avenues of employment to non-Kashmiris as well.
FEATURES:
- Out of 138 state laws, 25 have been repealed as whole while other laws have been adopted with substitutes.
- Domiciles have been been redefined. Now, anyone who has lived in the region for 15 years or has studied in the region for seven years and has appeared in either the Class 10 or the Class 12 examinations, will be eligible for domicile certificates.
- Also, children of those central government officials, All India services officers, officials of public sector undertaking, public sector banks, etc. who have served in Jammu and Kashmir for a total period of ten years are eligible to hold and apply for jobs in the Union territory.
- Tehsildar shall be the competent authority for issuing the domicile certificate.
- Through the same order, the Centre has repealed the J&K Civil Services (Special Provisions) Act.
