WHY IN NEWS?
The Central Vista Committee a special advisory group of Central Vista and Central Secretariat of the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs has given its nod for the new Parliament building.
CENTRAL VISTA PROJECT
- The project seeks to redevelop and reconstruct several historic buildings in a four-square-km area from the gates of Rashtrapati Bhawan to India Gate.
- The project includes a new Parliament house, a new central secretariat complex for ministries, and new residences for the prime minister and the vice president.
- As per the notification, the new parliament house building will come up on a triangular plot, designated as Plot No 2 opposite to the existing parliament.
- The Central Vista in the national capital houses the Rashtrapati Bhawan, Parliament, North and South blocks, the India Gate, the National Archives, among other historic monuments.
- The Central Vista development or redevelopment project is estimated to cost ?20,000 crore.
- The entire project is expected to be completed by 2024.
