• Ease of doing business ranking of states of India was published recently.

About the index:

• Ease of doing business ranking of states of India is the annual ease of doing business index of states and union territories of India.
• It is based on the completion percentage scores of action items points of annual Business Reforms Action Plan (BRAP) under the make in India initiative.
• The rankings are done by the Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion, under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry

Business Reform Action Plan (BRAP):

• It was launched in 2015.
• BRAP 2019 contains a list of 80 reforms comprising 187 reform action points to be implemented by the states.
• These reforms cover 12 business regulatory areas such as Access to Information, Single Window System, Land administration, Tax payment, Labour, Environment, etc.
• Andhra Pradesh has topped the index followed by Uttar Pradesh and Telangana.

What is World Bank Ease of Doing Business (EODB) index?

• The Ease of Doing Business (EODB) index is a ranking system established by the World Bank Group.
• The research presents data for 190 countries measuring 12 parameters.

• India was ranked 63rd among 190 nations in the World Bank’s index in 2019.
• World Bank recently decided to pause the publication of its Doing Business report following a number of irregularities regarding changes to data in previous reports.
