About INS Viraat:

• INS Viraat was a Centaur-class aircraft carrier of the Indian Navy.
• INS Viraat was the flagship of the Indian Navy before INS Vikramaditya was commissioned in 2013.
• The ship was originally operated by British Navy till 1984 and was sold to India in 1987.
• It was the second aircraft carrier of the Indian Navy after INS Vikrant, which was operated between 1961 and 1997.
• It served for almost 30 years and was decommissioned in 2017.
• It will be dismantled at Alang in Gujarat, world’s largest ship breaking centre.
