Why in news?

  • Ministry of Women and Child Development launches 2nd Phase of SAMVAD To Ensure Holistic Psychosocial Well-Being of Children & Adolescents.

About SAMVAD:

  • It is an initiative under Ministry of Women and Child Development
  • SAMVAD stands for ‘Support, Advocacy and Mental health interventions for children in Vulnerable circumstances And Distress’
  • The programme is aimed at mental health outreach for children who are abandoned and orphaned, child survivors of trafficking, or in conflict with law.
  • Implementing Body:
    • It is led by the National Institute of Mental Health and Neuro Sciences (NIMHANS).

Objectives:

  • To develop standardized child-centric modules and resources for the capacity building of primary, secondary and tertiary level psychosocial and mental health care service providers.
  • To undertake studies, audits, research and advocacy on issues pertaining to child and adolescent protection and related issues of mental health and psychosocial care
