Leopard population has declined 75-90 per cent in India, according to a study conducted by scientists from the Centre for Wildlife Studies (CWS India) and the Wildlife Institute of India (WII).

ABOUT WILDLIFE INSTITUTE OF INDIA (WII)

  • The Wildlife Institute of India (WII) is an autonomous institution under the Ministry of Environment Forest and Climate change, Government of India.
  • Wildlife Institute of India (WII) was set up at Dehradun in 1982 with a mandate to train government and non-government personnel, carry out research, and advise on matters of conservation and management of wildlife resources.
  • The Institute is actively engaged in research across the breadth of the country on biodiversity related issues.

    • Build up scientific knowledge on wildlife resources.
    • Train personnel at various levels for conservation and management of wildlife.
