Why in news?

• After nearly 20 years, the U.S. military left Bagram Airfield in Afghanistan.

About the Airfield:

• Bagram Airfield-BAF also known as Bagram Air Base was the largest U.S. military base in Afghanistan.
• It is located next to the ancient city of Bagram in the Parwan Province of Afghanistan.
• It has a single runway capable of handling large military aircraft along with a number of large hangars, a control tower, numerous support buildings, and various housing areas.

Some other important bases in Afghanistan:

• Marine Corps Base in Delaram province.
• Camp Leatherneck Marine in Helmand Province
• Camp Dwyer Marine Base in Hemland River Valley
• Shindand Air Base in Herat Province
