• Bolivian election seems to indicate defeat of a  U.S.-backed interim government that took power last year after leftist President Evo Morales resigned.
• Morales's handpicked successor, Luis Arce is likely to be the next president.

About Bolivia:

• Bolivia is a landlocked country located in western-central South America.
• The constitutional capital is Sucre, while the seat of government and executive capital is La Paz.
• The largest city and principal industrial center is Santa Cruz de la Sierra.
• Bolivia is the fifth largest country in South America, after Brazil, Argentina, Peru, and Colombia.
• The country is named after Simón Bolívar,  the anti-colonial hero of Latin America.

Geographical features:

• Along with Paraguay, it is one of the only two landlocked countries in the Americas.
• Lake Titicaca, the highest commercially navigable lake in the world and the largest lake in South America is located along the border with Peru.
• Amazon Basin covers 66% of the territory and is drained tributaries of Amazon like Mamoré River, Beni river etc.
