WHY IN NEWS?

The International Labour Organisation (ILO) has expressed concerns over the dilution of labour laws by various states following the lockdown and that it has appealed to Prime Minister to take up the issue with state governments.

  • It was founded in 1919 with Headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland.
  • It was United Nations first specialised agency.
  • Its mandate is to advance social justice as well as promote decent work by setting internationally accepted labour standards.
  • It has a membership of 187 nations.
