About Living Planet Report:
- The Living Planet Index (LPI) is a report on the state of global biodiversity and the health of our planet.
- It is based on the Living Planet Index and ecological footprint calculations.
- First published in 1998, for two decades it has tracked the population abundance of thousands of mammals, birds, fish, reptiles and amphibians from around the world.
- It uses the trends that emerge as a measure for changes in biodiversity.

- The Living Planet Report is published every two years by the WWF since 1998.
Findings of 2020 report:
- The report says population sizes of mammals, birds, fish, amphibians and reptiles have fallen by an average of 68 per cent in fewer than 50 years.
- Living Planet Report says farming and deforestation are two of the major causes, while over-fishing is a big problem for life in the ocean and fresh waters.
- The WWF says the destruction of ecosystems means a million species (500,000 animals and plants, and 500,000 insects) will be threatened with extinction over the next 100 years.
