Why in news?

  • The Union Education Minister has released the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) Rankings 2022.

About National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF):

  • Launched in 2015 by the Ministry of Education to rank colleges, universities and research institutions and also provides an overall ranking of all of them combined.
  • The framework judges institutions under five broad groups of parameters of
    • Teaching, Learning and Resources(TLR)
    • Research and Professional Practice(RP)
    • Graduation Outcomes(GO)
    • Outreach and Inclusivity(OI)
    • Perception (PR).
  • The rankings have been announced for 11 categories, this includes:
    • Overall, university, management, college, pharmacy, medical, engineering, architecture, ARIIA (Atal Ranking of Institutions on Innovation Achievements), law and research institutions.

Rankings of NIRF 2022:

  • IIT-Madras has retained its number one position in the overall educational institutes and engineering categories this year as well.
  • Universities:
    • Indian Institute of Science, Bengaluru tops the Universities Category for the seventh consecutive year.
  • Management:
    • IIM Ahmedabad tops in Management subjects retaining its first position for the third consecutive year.
  • Medical:
    • All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi occupies the top slot in Medical for the fifth consecutive year.
  • Colleges:
    • Miranda House retains the 1st position amongst Colleges for the sixth consecutive year.
