National Overseas Scholarship scheme

Why in news?

• Centre has changed the conditions for National Overseas Scholarship scheme.

About NOS:

• The National Overseas Scholarship is a Central Sector scheme for Scheduled Caste (SC) students.
• Nodal Ministry for the scheme is Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment.
• The Scheme provides financial assistance to the selected candidates for pursuing Master level courses and Ph.D abroad in the accredited Institutions/University by an authorized body of that country in any fields of study.
• The Annual Family Income limit for the Scheme for Scheduled Castes students w.e.f. selection year 2020-21 has now been increased from Rs 6 lakh to Rs 8 lakh per annum.
• Students securing admission in higher ranking institutions internationally will be given preference.
• The minimum qualifying marks have been increased from 55% to 60%.
