IN NEWS:

• The findings of the latest survey on the state of India’s health by the National Statistical Office has been made public.
• As per the report, the number of Indians reporting ailments dropped by 2.1 percentage points in rural areas and 2.7 percentage points in urban areas between 2014 and 2017-18.

About National statistical office (NSO):

• It was formed by the merger of Central Statistical Office (CSO) and National Sample Survey Office (NSSO) under the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MOSPI).
• It will be headed by the secretary of MOSPI.
• It is responsible for conduct of large-scale sample surveys in diverse fields on All India basis.
• Primarily data are collected through nation-wide household surveys on various socio-economic subjects, Annual Survey of Industries (ASI) etc.
• NSO also collects data on rural and urban prices.

About the Central Statistics Office (CSO):

• The Central Statistics Office (CSO) is a governmental agency in India responsible for co-ordination of statistical activities in India and evolving and maintaining statistical standards.
• It provides many important data including quarterly estimates of Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and Index of Industrial production.
