IN NEWS:
- Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri launched the ''Swachh Survekshan 2021'' - the sixth edition of the annual cleanliness survey-and said the exercise this year will focus on wastewater treatment and other parameters.
SWACHH SURVEKSHAN:
- Swachh Survekshan is a ranking exercise taken up by the Government of India to assess rural and urban areas for their levels of cleanliness and active implementation of Swachhata mission initiatives in a timely and innovative manner.
- The Ministry of Urban Development, Government of India takes up the Swachh Survekshan in urban areas and the Ministry of Drinking Water and Sanitation in rural areas.
- The Quality Council of India (QCI) has been commissioned the responsibility of carrying out the assessment.
- Swachh Survekshan 2021 toolkit which has the detailed survey methodology and component indicators with scores to help cities to prepare themselves for the survey has been launched.
- For the first time, state ranking will also be announced under the survey, to be measured based on their fund utilisation and support to respective local bodies.
- A new category of awards titled ‘Prerak Dauur Samman’ has been added as part of Swachh Survekshan 2021.
