ABOUT TILAK:
- Bal Gangadhar Tilak (Lokmanya Tilak), was a nationalist, teacher, and an independence activist.
- He was born as born as Keshav Gangadhar Tilak in Ratnagiri in Maharashtra.
- Tilak was one of the first and strongest advocates of Swaraj ("self-rule") and gave the quote "Swarajya is my birthright and I shall have it!"
- He was one third of the Lal Bal Pal triumvirate, who were the leaders of extremist faction of congress in early 20th century. The others were Bipin Chandra Pal and Lala Lajpat Rai.
- The highlights of his political career were his leadership of Swadeshi movement and the Home Rule movement.
- He created two newspapers, the Mahratta and Kesari.
