Why in news?

• India gifted the indigenously-built in-service missile corvette INS Kirpan to Viet- nam to enhance its naval capabilities.

About INS Kirpan:

• INS Kirpan is the name of a Khukri-class corvette formerly commissioned by the Indian Navy.
• It was recently decommissioned and handed over to Vietnam People's Navy.
• It is the first active warship that India has ever gifted to another country
• It was built by Garden Reach shipbuilders and Engineers and is capable of speed in excess of 25 knots.
• The can perform coastal and offshore patrol, coastal security, surface warfare, anti-piracy, and Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR) operations.
