Why in news?
- Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Limited (ONGC) is on its way to commercialize India’s ninth Hydrocarbon Producing Basin – the Vindhyan Basin (eighth by ONGC)
- ONGC is India's largest oil and gas producer contributing 72 per cent of the country's hydrocarbon production.

- Assam Shelf
- Rajasthan
- Cauvery
- Assam-Arakan Fold Belt
- Cambay
- Bengal Basin

- According to Directorate General of Hydrocarbons, there are 26 sedimentary basins in India.
