Dagmara hydroelectric project

Why in news?

• MoU for the Bihar’s mega Dagmara hydroelectric project, was signed between the Bihar State Power Holding Corporation and the National Hydroelectric Power Corporation Limited (NHPC).

About the project: 

•  Dagmara multipurpose hydropower project is located over the Kosi River in Supaul district of Bihar.
• It is Bihar’s biggest hydro-electric power project and total generation capacity of the ‘Run-of-River’ project will be 130.1 MW
• The barrage length would be 753 metre and would provide an alternate route to cross over the river.
• The project will control river meandering to a greater extent and will help in flood control.
