About ECOSOC:

• The United Nations Economic and Social is one of the six principal organs of the United Nations.
• It is responsible for coordinating the economic and social fields of the organization,
• It has 15 specialized agencies,  including UNESCO, WHO, ILO etc, eight functional commissions and the five regional commissions under its jurisdiction.
• Over 1600 non-governmental organisations have consultative status with the council.
• The Council consists of 54 Members States, which are elected yearly by the General Assembly for overlapping three-year terms.
