Why in news?

• Recently, the Union Ministry of Tribal Affairs has launched "Trifood Project".

About Trifood Project

• It is an initiative of Tribal Cooperative Marketing Development Federation of India (TRIFED).
• The project aims to enhance the income of tribals through better utilization of and value addition to the MFPs collected by the tribals.
• The project has been launched on a pilot basis in Raigad (Maharashtra) and Jagdalpur (Chhattisgarh).
• The units will be used for value addition to tribal products like mahua, amla, custard apple, honey, jamun etc to produce drinks juices and Pulps.

About TRIFED:

• Tribal Cooperative Marketing Development Federation of India Limited is a national level apex organization functioning under the administrative control of Ministry of Tribal Affairs.
• TRIFED is engaged in marketing development of tribal products and provides marketing support to the products made by tribals through a network of retail outlets.
